Gano Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain yesterday said disobeying any Supreme Court verdict is tantamount to showing disrespect to the country’s Constitution, reports UNB. “Articles 111 and 112 of the Constitution stipulate that we must accept a Supreme Court verdict. Or else, it’ll be tantamount to disrespecting our Constitution,” he said.
The noted jurist, who was appointed as a amicus curiae by the apex court during the hearing on the 16th amendment to the Constitution, was addressing a programme titled ‘Bangabandhu for Poor’ organised by his party at the Jatiya Press Club. Noting that a Supreme Court judgment is the ultimate verdict, Dr Kamal said there is nothing to talk about it.
He lamented that although displaced people played a historical role during the mass movement when Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was in jail in the Agartala Conspiracy Case, they have been in misery after the country’s independence.
The Gano Forum chief demanded that the displaced people must not be evicted without rehabilitation, saying eviction in the name of development is not the true development. He also urged all to build Bangladesh as per Bangabandhu’s ideology.
