Body found on bus roof

Police recovered the body of a young man from the rooftop of a bus at Kalibari bus stand in Manirampur upazila of the district yesterday.
Quoting witnesses, police said the driver and the helper of the Satkhira-bound bus of 'Mashallah Paribahan' found the body on the roof of the bus when it reached Kalibari bus stand around 7:35 am and fled away leaving the vehicle.
On information, a police team of Monirampur police station recovered the body and sent it to Manirumpur Upazila Health Complex for autopsy, said sub-inspector Sakhawat Hossian of the police station.
Local people said the man might have been killed being hit by tree branch.
Indian tea seized

Mmbers of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) yesterday seized forty bags of Indian tea worth about Tk 4 lakh from Sikri border in Benapole. Acting on a tip-off, BGB personnel led by Beanpole check post camp commander Abdul Wahab raided the border area in the morning and seized the Indian tea. Sensing the presence of BGB men, the smugglers fled the scene. Later, the seized tea was deposited to local customs.
One held with arms, ammo

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested an alleged arms peddler with three pistols, four magazines and 10 rounds of bullets from Kamadpara village under Shibganj upazila on Friday.
The arrested was identified as Arjed Ali, 48, of Atrashia village under Shibganj upazila.
RAB said, acting on secret information, an operation team of RAB-5 from Rajshahi Mollapara camp conducted a raid in the area and arrested Arjed with the arms and ammunition.
Later, the arrested was handed over to the Shibganj police with a case.
Man killed by lightning strike

A farmer was killed when a thunderbolt struck him in Dewanganj upazila of the district yesterday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Rafiqul Islam, 40, of Pathadhuapara village in Char Amkhawa union in Dewanganj upazila.
Police said lightning struck Rafiqul Islam while he was catching fish in the Zinjiram River, leaving him dead on the spot.
2 fugitive female convicts held

Police arrested two fugitive convicted women from Ismail colony area of the district town on Friday evening.
The arrestees were identified as Sefali Begum, wife of Billal Sheikh, and Sathi, wife of Firoz Sheikh, hailing from Narail district. They have been living in a rented house in the colony.
Samsuddoha, inspector (operation) of the Kotwali Police Station, said that a team of police conducted a drive in the evening and arrested them.
They were sentenced to five years rigorous jail and fined Tk 5,000 in a drug case, added the inspector.
8MT rice distributed in Rangamati
Rangamati: Rangamati municipality authorities distributed some eight metric tonnes of rice to around 4,000 landslide-affected labourers of 41 labour unions on Friday, reports UNB.
Dipankar Talukdar, former Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs minister, distributed 20 kg rice to every labourer at the conference room of Rangamati municipality in the afternoon. At least 154 people, including army personnel and children, were killed in landslides triggered by heavy rains in Bandarban, Chittagong, Rangamati and Cox's Bazar districts in June.
Of them, 118 were killed in Rangamati alone. Several hundred houses were damaged and road communication was disrupted in the district after the fatal landslide.
