The premiere screening of documentary film ‘Legend of the Loom’ by Drik-Bengal Muslin is going to be held today at the Kabi Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum, Shahbagh in the capital. The documentary has been directed by T9fx.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will be present as the chief guest during the screening. Faizul Latif Chowdhury, Director General of Bangladesh National Museum and Saiful Islam, author of ‘Muslin-Our Story’, researcher and presenter of ‘Legend of the Loom’ and CEO of Drik will also be present at the event.
There will be a brief Q&A session after the event.
Under the banner of Drik-Bengal Muslin, in partnership with Bangladesh National Museum and Aarong, a month long Muslin Festival was organized last year in February. An exhibition titled ‘Revival of Muslin’, a seminar, a fashion show, publication of a book and graphic novel- were all parts of the festival and Drik-Bengal Muslin’s project.
The screening of the documentary is also a part of this project. The film is the result of research by Saiful Islam, production of Drik-Bengal Muslin, directed by T9fx and narrated by Mita Rahman. The film is in English, 43 mins and takes the audience on a journey from the riverbanks of Bangladesh, the techniques practiced to create the finest and most sought after fabric in the world, its impact on the world of fashion and trade, and its current status.
The documentary will be screened at a few more venues in Dhaka throughout August. The Bengali version of the documentary will be available soon.
