RANGPUR: Experts at farmers’ field day stressed the need for cultivating more BRRI dhan48 on their land to increase rice production in the region, reports BSS.
They made the call while addressing a farmers’ field day at Madarganj village under Thakurgaon Sadar upzila yesterday afternoon.
RDRS Bangladesh, an NGO which is working to motivate farmers to cultivate short-duration paddy, organised the event.
At the event, agriculture experts also demonstrated cultivation technologies of BRRI Dhan-48 variety Aus rice at the field of farmer Matiar Rahman.
Additional Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Thakurgaon Shafikul Islam attended the occasion as the chief guest with Chairman of Awaliapur Union Farmers’ Forum Haider Ali in the chair.
The chief guest called upon farmers for enhancing cultivation of BRRI Dhan-48 rice during Aus season using deposited rainwater during May, June and July.
Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Anisur Rahman, Programme Manager (Field Coordination) of RDRS Bangladesh for Thakurgaon Ziaul Islam and local union Chairman Nazrul Islam were present as special guests.Agriculture Officer of RDRS Bangladesh Rabiul Alam narrated objectives of arranging field day at farmers’ land for further expanding cultivation of the most suitable short duration and high yielding variety of paddy.
Forty farmers have cultivated BRRI Dhan-48 variety of Aus rice at Awaliapur and Nargun unions of Sadar upazila in Thakurgaon with the assistance of RDRS.
Farmer Matiar Rahman, who has cultivated BRRI Dhan-48 rice on 45 decimals of land, said he was happy with the output of the paddy.
