7 BNP men acquitted of Ctg JCD leader murder case

A Chittagong court yesterday acquitted seven BNP men in a case filed over the killing of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader Golam Sarwar in the port city in 1999 following an internal feud, reports UNB.

Those acquitted are Mohammad Ali, Alauddin, Rafiq, Tinku Das, Arup Barua, Nasir Uddin and Raja. They all were JCD leaders and activists during the murder.

According to the prosecution, two groups of local JCD locked in a clash over previous enmity at Kazir Deudi in the city on March 8, 1999.

During the clash, the both groups exchanged gunshots when a bullet hit JCD leader Golam Sarwar, leaving him dead.

Following the incident, Sarwar’s mother Meherunnesa filed a case against 10 JCD leaders with Kotwali Police Station.

On March 16, 2001, police submitted a charge-sheet against seven JCD leaders.

On August 25, 2003, the court framed charges against them and started formal trial in the case.

After examining all four witnesses and evidence, Chittagong Divisional Special Judge Mir M Ruhul Amin passed the verdict.
