One killed, 15 injured in Madaripur clash
MADARIPUR: One person was killed and 15 others were injured in a clash between two rival groups at Sare Shibrasi village under Shibchar upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports BSS.
Police said there had been a long-standing dispute between UP member Ilias Matbor and Altaf Matbar over establishing supremacy in the area.
Supporters of them got engaged in an altercation this morning over previous enmity at a local kitchen market and a clash took place between them.
During the clash Ayub Ali, 40, a resident of the same area, died on the spot and 15 others received injuries.
The injured were sent to local clinic and Shibchar Upazila Health Complex.
On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said officer-in-charge of Shibchar Police Station M Zakir Hossain.
Police also arrested nine persons in this connection.
Man held with 6 gold bars
Benapole: Customs Intelligence officials arrested a man along with six gold bars from no-man’s land area at Benapole check post yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Selim Hawlader, 38, son of Shamsul Haque, hailing from Munshiganj district.
Tipped off, a team of customs intelligence officers searched body of Selim and recovered the gold bars weighing 1.25 kilograms while he was crossing no-man’s land, said deputy commissioner of Benapole Customs Intelligence Abdus Sadek.
The arrestee was handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.A case was filed.
Road crash kills two in Bogra

At least two people were killed and 25 others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger laden bus and two trucks in Bogra on Sunday.
The accident took place on Dhaka-Rangpur highway at Chandihara in Shibganj upazila of the district leaving a man dead on the spot.
Police officials and locals rescued the injured people and sent them to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Rafatullah Community Hospital.
The deceased was Nesar Mondal, 45, of village Bakila in Joypurhat district. Another one who died later in the hospital could not be identified immediately.
Md Jahidur Rahman, inspector (investigation) of Shibganj police station said police seized the trucks and bus. A case was lodged in this connection.
Elderly man drowns

An elderly man drowned in baor (water body) of Rajganj village in Monirampur upazila of Jessore on Sunday night.
Ain Uddin, in-charge of Rajganj Police Investigation Camp, said Habibur Rahman Hoby, 70, a resident of the village, went to catch fish in the baor around 8pm.
As he did not return home, the family members went out for searching him.
After a frantic search, they found his floating body.
Man held with yaba tablets
Munshiganj: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a drug trader along with 600 pieces of Yaba tablets from Koykitton village in Sreenagar upazila on Saturday afternoon, reports UNB.
Acting on secret information, a Rab team conducted a drive at the village and arrested Faruk Hawaladar, 25, son of Rafiq Hawaladar, said company commander of Rab-11 Nahid Hasan Jony.
Rab personnel also recovered 600 pieces of Yaba pills and Tk 14,340 from his possession, said Nahid.
