Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief allocated additional 500 tonnes of rice as general relief and TK. 10 lakh and 2,000 packets of dry food on Sunday to distribute to the flood victims of four upazilas of the district, reports BSS.
The ministry also allotted 500 bundles of corrugated iron (CI) sheets and TK 15 lakh for the river eroded people of Sundarganj, Sadar, Fulchhari and Shaghata upazilas to help them build their houses, concerned sources said.
This was disclosed by minister for Disaster Management and Relief Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Bir Bikram, MP, in a special meeting of district disaster management committee here yesterday.
Secretary of the ministry M. Shah Kamal attended the function as the special guest while deputy commissioner Goutam Chandra Pal presided over the meeting.
Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya said flood shelter centres would be constructed in every union of the district including Gaibandha located at Brahmaputra river basin very soon.
Deputy speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad Advocate Fazley Rabbi Miah, lawmaker from Sundarganj constituency M. Golam Mostafa Ahmed, police super M. Masrukur Rahman Khaled, president of district Awami League Advocate Syed Shams-ul- Alam Hiru, president of Sadar upazila AL Rezaul Karim Reza and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman addressed the meeting, among others.
Talking to the BSS, DC Goutam Chandra Pal said earlier, the ministry allocated 325 tonnes of rice and TK 18 lakh for the flood victims of the upazilas on emergency basis. Of them, some 295 tonnes of rice and TK 17.50 lakh had already been disbursed to the flood victims of the upazilas during the period, the DC added.
