NETRAKONA: Harvesting of cash crop jute has been started by the farmers of the district since last one week, reports BSS. The jute growers of the district are expecting bumper production of the cash crop in the current season. District Agriculture Extension Department (DAED) office sources said, this year, farmers cultivated jute on 4,951 hectors of land in the district. Of the total aforesaid land, 3,655 hectors of land were brought under kenaf variety of jute, 285 hectors of land under Mesta variety of jute, 813 hectors of land under capsularies variety of jute and 198 hectors of land under olitorious variety of jute. Talking to the BSS, deputy director of DAED of Netrakona Bilash Chandra Paul said that the jute growers are now passing their busy times for cutting their jute plants and rotting these plants into the natural open water-bodiesto collect better quality jute fiber.
Quoting field-level official reports reaching here from the rural areas, the deputy director said that the jute cultivators in different rural areas of the district are expressing their feelings of happiness after collecting better quality jute fibers from their jute plants.
Deputy director Paul also said that nearly fifty thousands bales of jute are expected to be produced in the district this season.
He informed that many farmers had shown their keen interest for cultivating jute on their farm lands including all of their fellow lands this year as the government ensured smooth supply of fertilizer, improved quality seeds and insecticides at fair prices side by side crops loan to make the jute cultivation successful in the district.
