Heavy downpour over the last few days have worsened the state of Dhaka's dilapidated roads and streets. Both Dhaka City Corporations (North and South) have announced that they will repair the broken roads in six months. The most busiest thoroughfares under the two corporations—such as Banani, Mohakhali, Tejgaon and Moghbazar—are in the worst condition. Around 1,500km out of around 2,300km streets under DSCC and DNCC have remained in a dilapidated condition and need immediate repair. In different areas, roads and walkways were found covered in potholes and broken in places due to lack of proper maintenance. The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has invited a tender for repairing a few streets, constructing the drain pipe of Rasulpur main road of the constituency Dhaka-2, ward no. 56 under Zone-03 (from Nawabganj section bridges to Kholamura via Borogram crossing and Munshirhat to Mohammadnagar crossing), (Beribandh to the banks of the Buriganga river and from Jhawchar to Jhawlahati Gazirghat), and constructing the drain pipe and footpath of Islamnagar graveyard madrasah (Baragram crossing to Madrasah crossing via Khalpar).
The DSCC has also invited another tender for repair and maintenance of the roads of 12 wards under Zone-03 and 15 wards under Zone-05 in the capital. Locals allege that lack of proper care by the authorities concerned has resulted in the dilapidation of different adjoining roads in the city. The recent budget unveiled by the two city mayors reveals that many streets and drains of the city are in a shambles.
