BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday urged the government to take measures immediately for eradicating the menace of mosquito-borne Chikungunya disease.

She made the call in a tweeter message from her verified account yesterday morning, a day before her scheduled visit to London.

 “While I pray for the early recovery of those affected by chikungunya, I strongly urge the government to take urgent steps to eradicate the causes,” she tweets.

The former premier made the call when Dhaka is witnessing the outbreak of the Chikungunya virus, raising a new public health concern in addition to the dengue fever.

Earlier on Thursday, BNP standing committee members at a meeting also expressed deep concern over the outbreak of Chikungunya in the city.

They also criticised the government for its failure to check mosquito menace in the wake of outbreak of the viral disease.
