Safety Net System for the Poorest

RANGPUR: Better coordination along with ensuring enlistment of the poorest people could ensure proper implementation of the Safety Net System for the Poorest Project (SNSP) in eliminating poverty from the society, reports BSS.

The opinion came at concluding ceremony of a training workshop on ‘Safety Net System for the Poorest Project’ organised by Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management at the hall room of Badarganj upazila parisahd here on Wednesday afternoon.

With Acting Badarganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abul Kalam Azad in the chair, union parisahd chairmen, members and secretaries of all 10 unions of the upazila and upazila level government officials participated in the workshop.

The training workshop was arranged to enhance capacities of all concerned for proper implementation of social safety net (SSN) programmes like Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF), Vulnerable Group Development (VGD), Food for Work (Kabikha), General Relief (GR), various allowances and other programmes.

Badarganj Upazila Chairman Fazle Rabbi Sweet attended the workshop as the chief guest while Upazila Vice-chairman Saidul Islam was present as the special guest.

Upazila Resource Centre Officer Ritash Chandra Sarker, Sub-assistant Engineer (Relief Section) Hassan Wadud and Master Trainer Harun-Ar-Rashid spoke, among others.

In his welcome speech, the Acting UNO said the government’s massive SNN programmes have been proved to very effective in cutting poverty meeting emergency need of the poor and distressed people.

He put special importance on ensuring efficient coordination among all concerned departments and organisations, involving enhanced participation of the ultra poor people, in the SNN implementation process to make the programmes more effective.

Upazila Vice-chairman Saidul Islam suggested for better coordination to avoid overlapping in selection of beneficiaries through ensuring inclusion of every deserving citizen to cut poverty for achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
