To remember noted Nazrul exponents Sudhin Das and Nazrul researcher-musician Dr Karunamaya Goswami, Bengal Foundation has come up with a commemorative programme today at the Chhayanaut Auditorium in the capital’s Dhanmondi area.
The programme will feature discussion, reminisce and cultural segment.
Veteran cultural personalities Kamal Lohani, editor of Kali O Kolom Abul Hasnat and Engineer Sayantan Goswami will attend the discussion and recall the memories of the two noted exponents.
In the cultural segment, Khairul Anam Shakil, Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Nasima Shaheen, Iqbal Sumon, Mofizur Rahman, Suporna Hasan Mitu will render songs in memory of Sudhin Das and Dr Karunamaya Goswami.
Born in Bagichagaon in Comilla, Sudhin Das was a Bangladeshi Nazrul Sangeet musician. He was awarded the Ekushey Padak. He enrolled as a regular Nazrul Sangeet performer at Pakistan Betar in 1948. After the death of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, he started setting down the original notations of Nazrul’s songs from gramophone records with the help of his wife Neelima Das, who is also a prominent Nazrul Sangeet artiste. The Ekushey Padak-winning singer breathed his last on June 27, 2017.
On the other hand, Karunamaya Goswami was born in 1942 in Mymensingh district. Goswami completed his PhD on the topic ‘Bangla Kabyo-geetir Dharaye Kazi Nazrul Islam-er Sthan’ from the University of Dhaka in 1988. He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2012. Goswami died on 30 June 2017, aged 75.
