‘Peddler’ held with phensidyl
CHITTAGONG: Members of the Narcotics Control Department (NCD) arrested an alleged drug peddler with 56 bottles of phensidyl from city's Bakalia area yesterday, reports BSS. The arrested was identified as Abdur Rahman, 42. Being informed, the members of NCD conducted a drive in Masterpool area under city's Bakalia thana around 11.30am and arrested Rahman with 56 bottles of phensidyl from his rented house. Rahman was wanted in several drug cases while another fresh case was filed against him with Bakalia thana in this connection.
AL leader Bakhtiar laid to rest
CHITTAGONG: Awami League (AL) leader Bakhtiar Noor Siddiqui was laid to rest in his native village Kalipur under Banskhali upazila of the district on Sunday evening following his 2nd namaz-e-janaza. The leader of the Chittagong South district unit of AL Siddiqui died at the age of 72, party and family sources said. His first namaz-e-janaza was held at Laldigi maidan after Johr prayer while another namaz-e-janaza was held at his native on Sunday.
Kazuhiro calls on Speaker
Kazuhiro Watanabe, a Japanese citizen who translated ‘Asamapta Attojiboni’, autobiography on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, into Japanese language, called on Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at her office on Sunday. During the meeting, Kazuhiro Watanabe handed over a copy of the book --Asamapta Attojiboni-- which has been translated and published into Japanese language- to the Speaker, also a chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA). Bangladeshi Ambassador to Japan Masud Bin Momen was present during the meeting.
93 arrested in port city
CHITTAGONG: Police in special drives arrested 93 people, accused in different cases, from different upazilas of the districts on Sunday night. During the drive police also seized 519 yaba tablets and 53 liters of liquor. Naimul Hasan, additional superintend of police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district, said they conducted separate drives from Sunday night to early yesterday in different upazilas of the district and arrested the 93 people. Among the arrestees, 75 were wanted in different cases and 18 were accused in regular cases.
