A gang of unidentified criminals hacked a trader to death and escaped with his bag full of money on Saturday night at Dolakhola intersection of Monirampur upazila in the district.
Officer-in-Charge of Monirampur Police Station Mokarram Hossain said like every day the owners of ‘Messrs Pal Brothers’ Parimal Pal and his two brothers - Ratan Pal and Kartik Pal, sons of Mahadeb Chandra Pal of Dolakhola, were returning home after closing their shop around 10:00 pm.
When they reached near their residence at Dolakhola intersection, two miscreants swooped on them with sharp weapons.
At one stage one of the miscreants hacked Parimal, leaving him severely injured and fled with the bag carrying money. The miscreants also hurled bomb, triggering panic in the area.
Parimal was rushed to Manirampur Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Jessore General Hospital where he died around 2:00 am.
In the meantime, police recovered the body of a night guard from Ghadkhali Kari in Jhikargachha upazila yesterday at about 9am.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Wahab, 70, a night guard of a mobile phone network tower.
OC of Jhikargachha Police Station Masud Karim said criminals might have strangled him to death.
Being informed police rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
