Long tailback at Paturia ferry ghat
Manikganj: Home-bound passengers of 21 South-Western districts have been facing immense sufferings due to long traffic congestion at Paturia ferry ghat in Shivalaya upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
For the crisis of ferry, the passengers are being compelled to wait at the ferry ghat for two to three hours.
Hundreds of buses, trucks and other small vehicles were seen stuck in a long tailback at Paturia ferry terminal.
Zillur Rahman, assistant general manager (AGM) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), said that a total of 15 ferries have been operating. Besides, two more ferries—‘Motiur Rahman’ and ‘Barkat’—are being brought from Narayanganj dockyard.
Man gets life term for
kidnapping girl

A court in Chandur on Thursday sentenced a young man to life term imprisonment in an abduction case.
Convict Kamrul Islam Pradhania, 25, is a son of Billal Hossain of Ramra village in Haziganj upazila. The court also fined him Tk 50,000.
According to the prosecution, the convict used to harass Shilpi Akter, a class XI student of Kapaikap Islamia Senior Madrasha on her way to madrasha from home and he abducted the girl on July 19, 2009.
Abdul Momin, father of the victim, filed a case on August 27, 2009.
Police, on October 28, 2009, submitted chargesheet against the convict.
After examining records and witnesses, Chandpur Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Selim Mia handed down the verdict.
Two killed in Jessore

Two men were killed and two others injured in two separate accidents in Jhikargachha and Kaliganj upazilas on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Madhu Karmakar, 50, son of late Jhotish Karmakar, a resident of Khosalpur village in Kaliganj upazila and Monwar Ali, 26, son of late Jabbar Ali, a resident of Tulshipur village of Jamalpur district.
In Kaliganj, Madhu Karmakar and his son were going to Barobazar by battery-run van. A Jessore-bound bus hit the van from back, leaving them seriously injured.
Local people rescued and sent them to Jessore General Hospital where Madhu Karmakar succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning. Officer-in-Charge of Barobazar Highway Police Md Najrul Islam confirmed the incident.
On the other hand, a worker of Jhikargachha Bakra Palli Bidyut, Monwar Ali, died from electrocution in Komorchand area of Jhikargachha upazila on Thursday afternoon.
Local sources said the incident took place when Monwar was giving connection to the disconnected power lines.
3 ‘robbers’ arrested with arms
Satkhira: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested three alleged forest robbers from Keyakhali canal adjacent to Kholpetua river under Satkhira range of the Sundarbans on Thursday morning, reports UNB.
The arrestees- Abdul Kader, of Tengrakhali village, Md Isa of Sora village, and Nazmul of Joymoni village in Shyamnagar upazila—are members of ‘Nur Islam Bahini’.
Major Adnan, deputy commander of Rab-8, said tipped off, a team of Rab conducted a drive in the morning and arrested them. The Rab team also recovered a one-barrel pistol, a two-barrel pistol, a 22 rifle, a shooter gun, and 82 rounds of bullet.
A case was filed and the arrestees were handed over to Shyamnagar police station.
Body recovered in Faridpur

Police recovered the body of an unidentified man from a dustbin at Kabirpur adjacent to Faridpur bypass road yesterday noon.
Belal Hossain, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station, said local people spotted the body in a sack in the dustbin at noon and informed police.
Later, police recovered the body.

Youth held for ‘kidnapping’ girl
Jessore: A man was arrested on Thursday on allegation of kidnapping a 15-year-old girl in Chowgacha upazila, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Sujon, 25, son of Jamat Ali, a resident of Bagardari village of the upazila.
Police sources said Jamat Ali filed a lawsuit with Chowgacha Police Station against Sujon under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Wednesday on charge of kidnapping his daughter on the day.
