No separate courtroom for Cyber Tribunal in 6 years
The country’s lone Cyber Tribunal is yet to get a separate courtroom, despite the lapse of more than six years since its inception in 2013 to try cybercriminals. The Cyber Tribunal started its journey on July 28, 2013 after receiving three cases. A total of 33 cases were received by the tribunal in 2014, 152 in 2015, 233 in 2016, 568 in 2017, 676 in 2018 and 184 cases till March 27 this year, sources said. Advocate Nazrul Islam Shamim, special public prosecutor of the Cyber Tribunal, said: “Till March 27, we have received 1,849 cases. Of these, 522 have been resolved. Criminals were punished in 25 cases. The poor number of cases being disposed of is due to the lack of a separate courtroom.” Most of the cybercrime related cases…
