A Bangladeshi imam and his assistant were gunned down in a brazen daylight attack in New York City when they left a mosque following afternoon prayers on Saturday, reports AFP from New York. Police said Imam Maulana Akonjee, 55, and his assistant Thara Uddin, 64, were shot just before 2:00pm (1800 GMT) in the Ozone Park neighborhood. The working class area, on the border between Queens and Brooklyn, is home to many Muslim families from Bangladesh. Both men were taken to nearby Jamaica Hospital with gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead there.
