To celebrate the 76th birthday of veteran theatre personality Ataur Rahman, Ataur Rahman Jonmo Udjapon Parishad has organised an elaborated programme today at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the capital.
As a part of the birthday celebration of Ataur Rahman, a cake-cutting ceremony will take place, where noted theatre and cultural personalities and activists will greet him with flowers. The event will also feature discussion and recitation.
Born in Noakhali on June 18 in 1941, Ataur Rahman completed his Masters in Soil Science from the University of Dhaka in 1965. He served as the general secretary and later president of Bangladesh Centre of International Theatre Institute (BCITI). He is the founder general secretary of the theatre troupe ‘Nagorik Natya Sampradaya’ and former chairman of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation. Till now, Ataur Rahman directed over 30 stage plays, including ‘Roktokorobi’, ‘Banglar Mati Banglar Jol’, ‘Narigon’, ‘Irsha’, ‘Opekkhoman’, and ‘Waiting for Godot’.
Ataur Rahman was bestowed with the Ekushey Padak in 2001 by the Government of Bangladesh for his contribution to theatre. He also received the prestigious Shaheed Munier Chowdhury Award. l
