BSF ‘picks up’ Bangladeshi
Lalmonirhat: Border Security Force(BSF) of India picked up a Bangladeshi farmer from Doikhawa border area in Hatibandha upazila on Friday, reports UNB.
Border Guard Bangladesh sources said BFS men picked up Shafiqul Islam, 30, son of Abdul Goni of Amjhol in the upazila around 3:30pm while he was working in his field near pillar No 905. Although BGB called for a flag meeting over the matter, BSF did not respond to it and instead they handed Shafiqul over to Indian police, said Lt Col Golam Morshed of BGB Battalion-15.
Day labourer beaten dead
Lalmonirhat: A day labourer was beaten to death over a trifling matter at Palashi Bazar in Aditmari upazila on Friday night, reports UNB.
Police said Abdur Razzak, 27, locked into an altercation with co-worker Ripon over the ownership of a lunch box in the night. At one stage of the altercation, Ripon and his father hit Razzak with a stick, leaving him injured seriously. Later, Razzak was sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injures, said officer-in-charge of Aditmari Police Station Horeshwar Roy.
49 Jamaat men arrested
Magura: Police in a special drive arrested some 49 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from different areas of four upazilas in the district during the past 24 hours, reports UNB.
The district police control room said that among the arrestees, 34 were held from Sadar upazila, one from Sreepur, three from Shalikha and 12 from Mohammadpur upazilas along with books and leaflets on extremism.
Most of the arrestees are the members of Jamaat-Shibir and involved in violence, police said.
The police made the arrest after cases were filed against them at different police stations in the district, he added.
The arrestees were sent to the court in the morning.
Youth killed in Magura
Magura: Some unidentified miscreants killed a young man and dumped his body in a flied at Chargoalpara village in Shreepur upazila early Saturday, reports UNB.
The identity of the dead could not be known immediately. Officer-in-charge of Shreepur Police Station Rezaul Islam said local people spotted the body of the young man aged around 25 in a field this morning and informed police.
The body bore several wound marks and sent to Sadar General Hospital for autopsy.
A case was filed over the matter with Shreepur Police Station.
Youth stabbed to death
BOGRA: A youth was stabbed to death by his cousin following previous enmity at Choto Kasimala village under kahalu upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The victim was identified as Aminur Rahman, 27, son of Matiar Rahman, a resident of the same area.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kahalu Police Station Nur-e-Alam said Aminur locked into an altercation with his cousin over a trifle matter this morning. At one stage of their altercation, his cousin stabbed Aminur in the area, leaving him critically injured.
He was sent to a local hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead.
A case was filed in this connection.
Road crash kills one
JHENAIDAH: A motorcycle rider was killed as a passengers bus crushed him on Jhenaidah-Kaliganj road in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday noon, reports BSS.
The victim was identified as Wahab Mondol, 50, hailed from Chaonia village of the upazila.
Witnesses said the accident took place when a passengers’ bus crushed Wahab in Kharikhali Battola area, leaving him dead on the spot.
