Panchagarh: A former Army man was beaten to death over the formation of a local mosque committee at Nayadighi Islampur village in Boda upazila on Friday afternoon.
The deceased is Aminur Rahman, 50, son of late Nazimuddin of the village, reports UNB.
Police said Nurul Islam, a resident of the village and general secretary of Islampur Jam-e Mosque committee, locked into an altercation with Aminur when the ex-army man sought details of the mosque account and asked him to form a new committee. At one stage, Nurul along with his family members swooped on him and beat him up with sticks.
Hearing the news, Aminur’s family members rushed in and locked into a clash with them, leaving 10 people injured from the both sides.
Aminur was sent to Boda Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead. Police arrested three people in connection with the incident, said officer-in-charge of Boda Police Station Abu Sayem Miah.
