Man found dead in Sylhet
Police recovered a decomposed body of an unidentified man on Friday from a water body in Rupia bridge area in Sylhet district. Officer-in-charge of Balaganj Police Station Md SM Jalal Uddin said locals located the body floating on the water in the afternoon and informed police.
Police later recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination, he said.
Woman found hanged
Police recovered body of a housewife hanging by a rope in her residence at Shyampur village of Jaintapur upazila in Sylhet early Friday.
The victim was identified as Khadiza Begum, 25, wife of Qatar expatriate Fakhrul Islam of the village. Officer-in-charge of Jaintapur Model Police Station Shafiul Kabir said around 1am locals found Khadiza, mother of two children, hanging by a rope in her house and informed police. Later in the morning, police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy, he said.
One loses feet in train accident
A mentally disabled woman lost her feet after she slipped under the wheels of a train at Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital on Friday.
The victim was identified as Moni Akhter, 30, wife of Dulal Miah of Shahjahanpur Railway Colony in the capital.
Talking to reporters, Dulal said his wife had been suffering from mental problem for 2-3 years. “I received a call two hours after Moni went out of the house that she suffered injures after hitting by a train at the railway station,” said Dulal. Moni was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he said.
Boat capsizes in Ctg port
An engine boat capsized at the outer anchorage (Kafco area) of Chittagong port on Friday due to rough weather.
Lt Commander Dikson Chowdhury, staff officer (operations) of Bangladesh Coast Guard (east zone), said the boat sank in the morning following strong waves in the bay. On information, a patrol team of Bangladesh Coast Guard rushed in and rescued the three inmates of the sunken boat.
Fire at Dhaka Trade Centre
Dhaka Trade Centre caught fire in the capital’s Gulistan area on Friday night.
Sources at the Fire Service Control Room said the fire originated from a shop on the 3rd floor of the shopping mall around 10:10pm. On information, three firefighting units rushed in and brought the blaze under control around 10:44pm.
It was still not clear what caused the fire.
School girl ‘kills self’ in Sylhet
A school girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself with the fan at Baburagaon Noapara village in sadar upazila in Sylhet on Friday morning.
Police recovered the hanging body of Fateha Jannat Rima, 14, daughter of Shafiqul Islam, a resident of Noapara village, around 11 am after being informed by the family members. She was the student of class IX of Border Guard Public School and College.
DB arrests 4 with firearms
Detective branch (DB) of police in separate drives arrested four persons with two firearms and a sharp weapon in the capital on Monday.
“Of the arrestees Mahtab alias Shaon, 30, and Sagar Mahmud, 38, were detained from Gulistan area at around 5.15 pm on Monday and a pistol and two bullets were recovered from their possessions,” a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) release said.
