Customs Intelligence this morning seized 338 cartons banned foreign-made cigarette at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, reports BSS.
“Acting on a tip-off, customs members challenged Md Farhadul Islam Chowdhury, a passenger who came from Dubai on Bangladesh Biman flight BG 052, as he tried to go out of the airport by avoiding the scanning machine,” a customs intelligence release said.
Later, the customs members found 67,600 banned cigarettes in 338 cartons hidden inside his three luggages, the release added.
All the cigarettes are of US brand 303 and worth around Taka 27.04 lakh. According to the rules, foreign-made cigarettes without anti-smoking warning in Bengali on the packet cannot be imported in the country.
Legal actions have been taken under customs rule in this regard.
