Woman kills 2 daughters, self
Barguna: A woman allegedly committed suicide after killing her two daughters at Lemua village in Sadar upazila on Saturday night, reports UNB. Locals said Rosy Akter, wife of Ruman Panchayet, first fed poison to her daughters -- Moumi, 4, and Tayeba, 2 -- and then she herself took it at about 10:30 pm. They were rushed to Barguna General Hospital where duty doctors declared Moumi and Tayeba dead. Doctors referred Rosy to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital as her condition deteriorated. But she died on way to the hospital. Police suspected that the incident occurred following a family feud.
Couple held with pistol, bullets
Kushtia: Police arrested a couple along with one 9MM pistol, two magazines and six rounds of bullet from Philipnagar Abed terminal area in Daulatpur upazila yesterday morning,reports UNB. The arrestees have been identified as Iqbal Molla,55, of Bhabanandadiar village in the upazila and his wife Nur Jahan,35. Officer-in-charge of Daulatpur police station Aminul Islam said acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive there at about 11 am.
Sensing the arrival of law enforcers, they tried to flee the scene. Police arrested Iqbal and his wife Nur Jahan, members of the gang, while others managed to flee.
They had long been involved in arms trading, the OC added.
Farmer hacked to death
Chuadanga: A farmer was hacked to death by some criminals at Beguarkhali village in Alamdanga upazila of the district yesterday., reports UNB The deceased has been identified as Azizul Islam Azit of the same village. Witnesses and police said a gang of criminals swooped on the house of Azit at about 2 am and hacked Azit with machetes leaving him seriously injured. Hearing the screams of Azit’s wife and children, locals rushed to the spot and took him to a local hospital. But he succumbed to his injures on the way to the hospital. Officer-in-charge of Alamdanga police station Mamun-ur-Rashid suspected that Azit might have been killed over previous enmity.
Teenage boy drowns
Naogaon: A teenage boy drowned in a pond in Bangabaria area of Naogaon district town on Saturday, reports UNB. The deceased was Fardin, 16, a resident of Purana Paltan area of the capital,reports UNB. Locals said Fardin went to visit his grandmother’s house from Dhaka several days ago. He drowned in the pond when he went to the pond for taking bath around 2:30pm. On information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and rescued him from the pond. Later he was rushed to Noagoan Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead. Duty Inspector Nurul Islam of Noagoan fire service station confirmed the incident.
