Udichi Shilpigosthi celebrates first day of monsoon

To welcome the monsoon (first day of the rainy season), prominent cultural organisation Udichi Shilpigosthi arranged a daylong festival titled ‘Barsha Utsab 1423’ yesterday at the Nazrul Mancha of Bangla Academy, Shahbag in the capital. The colourful programme included songs, dance and poetry recitation.
The programme started at 7 o’clock in the morning by paying tribute to departed souls of the recent Rangamati, Bandarban landslide. Then, a cultural programme began with the solo flute recital by Sheikh Abu Zafar. He played the music of ‘Megh Medur Borshay Kotha Tumi’ on his flute which created marvellous feelings to the people in the very first morning of the Bangla month of Asharh.
Benazir Ahmed Liya performed a solo dance performance with the song ‘Neel Anjan Ghono Kunjo Chhayay’ while recital Dalia Ahmed recited poems.
After the recitation, artistes of ‘Spandan’ presented a group dance with the song ‘Megher Palok’ directed by Anik Basu and Biman Chandra Biswas rendered song ‘Ashar Maisya Bhasa Pani Re’. After then, Belayet Hossain took the stage with his poetry recitation. Besides Biman Chandra, prominent singers Shamim Al Mamun, Sazeda Begum Saju, Abinash Baul, Mayesha Sultana and Zakir Hossain rendered solo songs.
On the other hand, artistes of Udichi Dhaka Mahanagar Sangsad staged a dance-drama ‘Bihabol Borshay’, which was scripted by Belayet Hossain Mamun.
Alongside Udichi Dhaka Mahanagar Sangsad, several troupes of Udichi including Mirpur, Kafrul and Kollyanpur took part in the Barsha Utsab.
