Girl rescued after six years
FARIDPUR: Members of Rapid Action Battalion rescued a young girl from Dulatdia brothel of Rajbari district on Wednesday night, reports BSS.
The girl went on missing six years ago from her Gopalganj residence.
The girl is identified as Rikta Khanom, 22, a resident of Gopalgonj district.
RAB men held one Mukul Sheikh in this connection.
Following a General Diary (GD) filed by victim's brother, a team of the elite force led by Additional SP Roish Uddin conducted a raid at the brothel last night and rescued Rikta, who was sold to the brothel six years ago.
 VGF rice allocated in Pirojpur
PIROJPUR: The government has sanctioned 508 tonnes of rice for 50,000 VGF cardholders at the all upazilas and municipalities of the district on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, reports BSS.
Of the total rice, 139 tonnes would be distributed to 13,863 cardholders of Pirojpur, Mathbaria and Swarupkathi municipalities, 15 tonnes to 1,540 cardholders Bhandaria municipality, 50 tonnes to 5,008 cardholders of Sadar upazila, 81 tonnes to 8,128 cardholders of Bhandaria upazila, 35 tonnes to 3,591 cardholders in Indurkani upazila, 84 tonnes to 8,494 cardholders of Mathbaria upazila, 21 tonnes to 2,176 cardholders in Kaukhali upazila, 37 tonnes to 3,742 cardholders in Najirpur upazila and 43 tonnes to 4,308 cardholders of Nesarabad upazila, said official source.
The government isdistributing the rice among the poor and distressed families to assist them to celebrate the upcoming Eid, said Sanjib Das, district relief and rehabilitation officer.
The distribution of rice is expected to begin in the next week.
Man killed in Tangail

Criminals killed a man in Dhanbari upazila of Tangail district on Wednesday night.
The deceased was Narayan Shorma, 45, of village Nolla in the upazila. Laxmi Rani, wife of the deceased said criminals strangulated her husband to death. She added that her husband went to Dhanbari from his Nalla residence on Wednesday evening with a view to buying shoes of their kid. Since then he was missing.
Local people saw the body at another village of the upazila yesterday morning and informed it to police, said Mojibor Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dhanbari police station.
The body was sent to Tangail Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
A case was lodged.

Media role in preventing graft

A seminar on the role of media in preventing corruption was held at deputy commissioner’s conference room in Narail on Wednesday.
Arranged by Corruption Prevention Committee, Narail district unit in assistance with Anti Corruption Commission the seminar began at 4 pm with district unit president of Corruption Prevention Committee Principal Moniruzzaman Mollik in the chair.
The key note paper was presented by district unit secretary of Corruption Prevention Committee Kazi Hafizur Rahman.
Among others, it was addressed, by  Police super Sardar Rakibul Islam, deputy director of Anti Corruption department (Jessore Office) Jahidul Islam, BTV representative Enamul Kabir Tuku, district correspondent of Prothom Alo Kartik Das, district correspondent of The Independent Malay Kanti Nandi, district correspondent of Kaler Kantho Saiful Islam Tuhin and district correspondent of The Ittefaq Tarikuzzaman Litu.  
Anti Corruption officials, Corruption Prevention Committee members and a host of media men were present at the seminar.
