‘Dairy farming can eradicate protein deficiency’

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra Chanda, MP, has said substantial and sustainable promotion of dairy farming is very important to free the nation from protein deficiency, reports BSS. He also said the unemployment problem in the rural areas could be reduced to a great extent through making the dairy farming popular at the grassroots level.
The state minister urged the scientists and researchers to transfer the modern technology to the grassroots level dairy farming to make it profitable to the farmers so that more other people are encouraged in this regard. He was addressing a dairy farming related workshop at Dean’s Complex of Rajshahi University (RU) here yesterday as chief guest.
Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences of the RU organized the workshop titled “Anoestrus Problems in Dairy Cows and Development of the Appropriate Treatment Protocol” in association of the Ministry of Education.
With the department chairman Dr SM Kamruzzaman in the chair, RU Vice-chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan, Dean of Agriculture Faculty Prof Saiful Islam, District Livestock Officer Md Nizam Uddin and General Secretary of Bangladesh Livestock Society (BLS) Dr Hemayetul Islam also spoke on the occasion. During his keynote presentation, Prof Jalal Uddin Sarder, President of BLS, put forward a set of recommendations on how to address the anoestrus problems through promoting appropriate treatment protocol.
State Minister Narayan Chandra said rural people, most of whom are women in the region, have now become income-generators through dairy farming contributing a lot to improving their living and livelihood condition.
With the government instruction, various government and non-government organizations concerned including the commercial banks have already come forward towards providing necessary supports to the sector.
