Locals under the banner of Thakurgaon Nagorik Committee and rights activists formed a human chain at Thakurgaon intersection in the town on Thursday demanding introduction of intercity train service between Dhaka-Thakurgaon–Panchagarh.
Later, rights activists brought out a procession in the town. Parading main roads in the town the procession ended at the deputy commissioner’s office premises. Later, a demonstration programme held there.
Locals also submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner after the procession for handing it over to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Railways Minister. In the memorandum, they requested the PM to take steps to start the long-awaited intercity train service.
Among others, district AL advertisement and publish secretary and former Chhatra League leader Mustafizur Rahman Ripon, district BNP leader Obaydullha Masud, director of Thakurgaon Chamber of Commerce Mamun Ar Rashid, municipality councilor Droupodi Agorwala, journalist Monsur Ali, president of Thakurgaon Nagorik Committee Ataur Rahman and general secretary Mohmud Hasan prince addressed the programmes.
According to the speakers, intercity train service from Panchagarh and Thakurgaon to Dhaka is a long awaited demand of the people of the districts.
