Bangladesh wins WSIS Award for 4th time
For the fourth time in a row, Bangladesh have earned world’s most prestigious award in information technology sector “World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Award-2017” for four innovation projects of Access to Information (A2i), reports UNB.
Among the four projects, “Multimedia Talking Book” achieved the first position.
Programme project director of A2i and director general (administration) of Prime Minister's Office Kabir Bin Anwar received the award at the headquarters of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva on Tuesday, said a press release from A2i.
Secretaries and project officials also were present in the event. The other three awarded projects are - Telemedicine Project of Dhaka University, Uses of Social Media in Public Service Innovation and E-Document.
3 shops fined Tk 40,000 in Ctg
The mobile court in a bid to control price hike during the holy month of Ramadan on Wednesday visited a market of Boalkhali upazila of the district and fined three shops Taka 40,000 on different grounds.
Afia Akter, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Boalkhali upazila, fined three clothes shops Taka 40,000 for realizing exorbitant prices and not showing the price list.
Certificates, prizes distributed
Trust Technical Training Institute (TTTI), a vocational training institute operating by Bangladesh Army, distributed certificates and prizes among the students of January-June on Wednesday at its auditorium in the city.
Principal of the institute Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Mohammed Asadur Rahman Khan, psc presided over the programme while the deputy managing director of Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory (BMTF) Brigadier General Mohammed Tanvir Iqbal spoke as the chief guest.
Vice peincipal of the institute Major (retrd) Shaymolendu Kobiraj, senior military officers of Gazipur cantonment, instructors and officials of TTTI were present in the programme.
Qulkhwani of major Jasim Uddin today
Qulkhani of Major (retd) Jasim Uddin, former president of Bangladesh Cold Storage Association (BCSA), will be held today (June 16) after Asr prayers at Allahu Mosque at Dhaka Cantonment.
All have been requested to join the special prayers for seeking eternal peace of the departed soul. Major (retd) Jasim Uddin died of a brain stroke at a hospital in the capital on June 10. He was 69. Jasim Uddin, owner of Meghna Multipurpose Himagar and Meghna Packaging, left behind his wife, a daughter, a son and a host of relatives and well wishers to mourn his death.
He was buried at Banani army graveyard.
