Police arrested two suspected muggers while fleeing after snatching valuables from a rickshaw passenger in the capital’s Uttara area early Wednesday.
The arrestees were identified as Md Swapan, 32, and Abul Kashem, 40.
Three muggers in a private car took away a bag from a rickshaw passenger around 5:30am, said Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Masudur Rahman. A team of police who were near the spot chased the private car.
Sensing danger, the hoodlums got down from the vehicle when it reached Kamarpara and tried to flee. Realising that they would not be able to flee, the snatchers swooped on the law enforcers with sharp weapons, forcing police to fire.
Later, police arrested two injured muggers while their other cohort managed to flee.
Police recovered the looted bag and seized the private car.
