Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Thursday laid emphasis on ending child labour from society through joint efforts saying child labour is a clear violation of child rights, reports UNB.
“The existence of child labour means violation of their (children) rights. Child labour must be stopped to ensure the rights of children,” he said. Minister Inu came up with the remarks at the closing ceremony of a workshop on the role of media in raising awareness to end child labour organised by Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) in association with Australian Aid, CSID and World Vision at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. He said media need to play an uncompromising role in stopping child labour and can help create awareness among people by exposing different forms of child labour that exist in society through reports.
The Information Minister said joint efforts by the government and media can play a great role in reducing child labour from the country. Through reports, media can uncover the weaknesses and loopholes of government's initiatives that have been taken to end child labor, Inu said.
BSS Managing Director and Chief Editor Abul Kalam Azad presided over the programme.
