On May 31, six railways connecting Kunming to Shanghai, Nanning and Chengdu were officially included as part of regular routes stopping at Kunming East Railway Station. This marked maiden operations at Yunnan’s largest railway hub.
In the future, passenger trains into and out of Kunming from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou via the Shanghai-Kunming Railway and Nanning-Kunming Railway, will bypass the east station and head directly to Kunming Railway Station. Conversely, freight trains into and out of Kunming via the Chengdu-Kunming Railway and the Kunming-Hanoi line will stop only at the Kunming East Railway Station. This separation of traffic will significantly improve overall transport efficiency in the province.
With the progressive improvement of Yunnan’s “eight interprovincial and five international” railway network, Kunming East Station will become an important large-scale transport, transit and logistics hub connecting China and the countries of South and Southeast Asia.
