The indefinite strike, enforced by Chuadanga District Shop Owners Association, entered second day on Monday, causing huge troubles of shoppers ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr.The markets and shops of the district were seen closed since morning.The general buyers demanded immediate solution of the problem.Earlier on Sunday afternoon, the association enforced an indefinite strike in protest of the 'assault' of two leaders of the traders following a clash with police.Witnesses said an altercation took place between police and local traders when district administration was conducting a mobile court in Rail Bazar area of the district town in the afternoon.Following the altercation, police assaulted the two leaders, claimed the shop owners.Ibrul Hasan, general secretary of Shop Owners Association, said that the law enforcers assaulted him and president Asadur Rahman Lemon and later, took them to police station.Protesting the incident, the shop owners staged a demonstration in Shaheed Hasan Chattar area demanding the removal of Superintendent of Police within
24 hours.A tense situation was prevailing in the area following the incident.Meanwhile, district administration sources said local traders obstructed and confined executive magistrate Fakhrul Islam and other policemen while conducting the mobile court to seize illegal and expired products.On information deputy commissioner Zia Uddin Ahmed and SP Nizam Uddin rushed to the spot.Denying the allegation of assaulting traders, SP Nizam Uddin said that police brought the president and the general secretary of the association to thana to discuss the matter.Additional police members were deployed to avoid untoward situation.
