The two-week-long first phase training camp of the Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket Team has been ended yesterday without their head coach Damien Wright.
Australia-born coach, Wright, will come again on July 2 after the end of the Eid vacation. The second phase of the training will resume on July 7 which will be held this time in Sylhet.
They started an intense training session for a tri-nation series what was held in India but somehow it is not being held though the formal annulment has not been declared for the series from the host country.
And so, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is thinking to host another tri-nation series for their Under-19 Cricket Team with the involvement of Sri Lanka and Afghanistan ahead of the upcoming U-19 Asia Cup.
India will host the Asia Cup for the youth, which will be played by eight teams-four teams from TP countries and four regional qualifiers (top two teams from each region).
A total of eight teams including Bhutan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Myanmar and Nepal will take part from Eastern region, scheduled to be held in Malaysia in between September 10-22.
A total of nine teams including Afghanistan, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Maldives, Bahrain, Iran and United Arab Emirates (UAE) will participate from Western region, the qualifier will be hosted by Kuwait in between October 10-22.
Bangladesh are scheduled to play a tri-nation in India with the participation of Sri Lanka and the hosts country, India. But an uncertainty surrounding the series has been arisen. And so, BCB is planning to arrange a new tri-nation to give their team a perfect preparation of match playing prior to their Asia Cup.
The 24-member preliminary squad of Bangladesh Under-19 had been starting a training camp since May 22 what they finished with playing two practice matches yesterday.
Even though they could play their first practice match at BKSP on June 10, the second could not roll onto owing to the countrywide downpours.
Thereafter, they will play some practice matches with HP team so that they could take a good preparation for the home series.
In this regard, HP coach Abdul Karim Jewel said that they will resume their preparation afresh after the Eid vacation.
“Some of our players were busy in Dhaka Premier League (DPL). Then they took part in the two-week-long training camp. They are needed to take some rest for the next campaign. So, we put a stop in our intense training session today,” said Abdul Karim.
“We’ll resume it after the vacation of Eid-ul-Fitr. That time we’ll go in Sylhet to do practice in bouncy wickets. Then we’ll play some practice matches with HP squad so that we could take a good preparation for the home series and Asia Cup,” Jewel told newsmen.
