Malaysian National University professor calls on DU VC
Director of Renewable Energy Institute of the National University of Malaysia Professor Dr Kamaruzzaman Sopian yesterday paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique at the latter's office on the campus.
DU Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department Professor Dr Zahid Hasan Mahmood and Ph.D scholar of the same department Nahid Akter were present at the meeting, said a DU press release in the capital.
During the meeting, they discussed matters of mutual interest and exchanged views on the academic and research programmes of DU and National University of Malaysia.
The DU vice-chancellor apprised Professor Kamaruzzaman briefly of the history of Dhaka University and its academic and research activities. 
Professor Arefin Siddique thanked the Malaysian professor for visiting DU and expressing keen interest in its academic activities, the release added.

Prof Sanjida Khatun appointed as ‘Ahmed Sharif Chair’ Professor at DU
Former Professor of Dhaka University (DU) Bangla Department Dr Sanjida Khatun has been appointed as ‘Ahmed Sharif Chair’ Professor at the same department.
She was appointed as the first professor for the newly launched chair at DU Bangla Department and will carry out different research activities at the department during her one year tenure as the 'Ahmed Sharif Chair' Professor, said a DU press release in the capital yesterday. 
Dr Sanjida Khatun was born to Professor Kazi Motahar Hossain and Sajeda Khatun in 1933.  She obtained her Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Arts degrees in Bangla Language and Literature from Dhaka University in 1954 and 1955 respectively.
She also obtained her PhD and post doctoral degree from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan in India and received D. Litt degree from the same university in 2008, the release added. 
Besides, she was awarded with 'Ekushey Padak' by Bangladesh government in 1990, 'Sadat Ali Akanda Award' by Bangla Academy in 1998, 'Bangla Academy Literature Award' in 1999 and 'Rabindra Award' by Bangla Academy in 2010, it said.

NU senate session on June 17
The 19th senate session of National University (NU) will be held on June 17 at the senate hall on the university campus at Gazipur, said a NU press release yesterday.
The members of parliament (MPs), chairmen of different education boards, professors of different universities and other senate members will join the session. NU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Harun-or-Rashid will chair the function, the release added.

IU publishes pocket diary after 7 years
ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY:  The authority of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia published its pocket diary-2017 yesterday after 7 years.
Vice -chancellor (VC) of the University Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari unveiled the cover of Pocket Diary-2017 at his office around 11.30am Pro-VC professor Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, Treasurer Professor Dr M Selim Toha, Acting Registrar SM Abdul Latif, Deputy Director of Public Relation office M Ataul Haque, assistant director Rajibul Islam were present on the occasion. 
IU VC Rashid Askari said the pocket diary has been published in cooperation with all teachers, officers and employees of the university.

BUP passes Tk 76.20 crore budget
Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) Senate on Sunday passed a Taka 76.20 crore budget for the fiscal 2017-18 in the annual senate session at Bijoy Auditorium on the campus located in Mirpur Cantonment area in the city.
BUP Treasurer Air Cdre M Abdus Samad Azad placed the budget with Vice- chancellor Major General Md Salahuddin Miaji in the chair, said an ISPR press release here.
The treasurer also presented a Taka 71.50 crore revised budget for the fiscal 2016-17.
Besides, Air Cdre M Aminul Islam presented the annual report of the university in the session, the release added.
