Son allegedly kills father
Satkhira: A man succumbed to his injuries early yesterday after his son allegedly had beaten him severely over a family feud in Hazipur village of Sadar upazila, reports UNB.
Officer-in-charge of Satkhira Police Station Maruf Ahmed said Salam, a local mechanic, beat up his father Akbar Ali, 60, with bamboo stick, leaving him severely injured over a trivial matter. Later, he died around 6:00 am.
Salam managed to flee after his father's death, he said.
The body was sent to Satkhira General Hospital for autopsy.
Elderly man killed in Sylhet clash
Sylhet: An elderly man was killed in a clash between two groups of villagers over a trifling matter at Bara Dirai village in Osmaninagar upazila on Saturday evening, reports UNB.
Police said two groups of villagers locked in the clash centring talking over mobile phone after iftar, leaving Jabed Ali, 50, a resident of the village, injured.
Jabed was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 10:00 pm, said Mohammad Shahid Ullah, officer-in-charge of Osmaninagar Police Station.
Lightning strike kills woman
Sylhet: A housewife was killed by lightening strike in Barakher village of Laxmiprasad union in Kanaighat upazila on Saturday night, reports UNB.
The dead is identified as Jabedun, 35, wife of Jakaria Ahmad of the village. Locals said a lightning struck her house while working around 9:30 pm, killing Jabedun on the spot.
Jabedun's six children also sustained minor injuries and they are now undergoing treatment at local hospital.
7 ‘robbers’ held in Comilla
Comilla: Police arrested seven suspected robbers from Borakchar village on Muradnagar-Iliotganj road in Muradnagar upazila on early yesterday, reports UNB.
Officer-in-charge of Muradnagar Police Station SM Badiuzzaman said two police teams were patrolling Muradnagar-Iliotganj road at night.
When the patrol team reached Borakchar village around 2:00 am, they found a group of robbers blocked the road lying trunks to commit robbery. Following this, policemen opened fire when five of the robbers sustained bullet wounds.
 The law enforcers also arrested two of the bandits by chasing them while the duo was trying to flee the scene.
The bullet-hit robbers were taken to Muradnagar Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Comilla Medical College Hospital under police custody.
