Drug peddler held with 10,000 yaba in Ctg
CHITTAGONG: Police arrested a drug peddler with 10,000 pieces of yaba tablets from the citys Shah Amanat bridge area here yesterday.
The arrested was identified as Abbas Uddin, 37, son of Abdul Nobi, hailed from Anwara upazila of the district.
Police said a team of Detective Branch (DB) police raided north side of Shah Amanat bridge area at around 12:20 pm and arrested the drug peddler.
Police also recovered 10,000 pieces of yaba tablets from his possession.
A case was filed with Bakalia thana in this connection.
Road accident kills youth
A motorbike rider was killed as a bus hit his motorcycle in Jaflong-Mamarbazar area under Goinghat upazila of Sylhet yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Yusuf Miah, 25, son of Tota Miah, a resident of Kandirpar village of the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Goinghat Police Station Delwar Hosain said the accident occurred when a Sylhet-bound bus hit the motorbike from opposite direction in the area, leaving the bike rider Yusuf dead on the spot.
Elderly man killed in clash
An elderly man was killed in a clash between two groups of villagers over a trifling matter at Bara Dirai village in Sylhet on Saturday evening.
Police said two groups of villagers locked in the clash centring talking over mobile phone after Iftar, leaving Jabed Ali, 50, a resident of the village, injured.
Jabed was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 10pm, said Mohammad Shahid Ullah, officer-in-charge of Osmaninagar Police Station.
11 doping gang members held
Detectives in separate drives arrested 11 suspected members of a doping gang from different areas of the capital on Saturday night.
Sources at the Detective Branch (DB) of police said detectives arrested 11 members of the gang while carrying out overnight drives in different places across the capital. However, the identities and the details of the arrestees will be briefed later in the day.
Lightning strike kills one
A woman was killed by lightning strike in Barakher village of Laxmiprasad union in Sylhet on Saturday night.
The dead is identified as Jabedun, 35, wife of Jakaria Ahmad of the village. Locals said a lightning struck her house while working around 9:30 pm, killing Jabedun on the spot. Jabeduns six children also sustained minor injuries and they are now undergoing treatment at local hospital.
Death anniv of Abul Khayer today
The 6th death anniversary of AlHaz Abul Khayer Majumder, Awami League leader and organiser of freedom fighting in Parshuram, Feni will be observed today, says a press relase.
The Iftar mahfil was arranged after the Asr prayer. Qurankhwani, milad-mahfil, jikir asgar will be held at his home in Uttar Saliya, Parshuram upazilla in Feni marking the day. All relatives, friends well wishers have been requested to present this doa mahfil.
JS body for strengthening OMS
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Commerce yesterday suggested for strengthening the operation of the open market sale (OMS) of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
The suggestion came at the 21th meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman M Tajul Islam Chowdhury in the chair, said an official press release.
