Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday leveled BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's threat of waging movement against the government after Eid-ul-Fitr as lofty way of talking, reports BSS.
“Those days are gone when you (Khaleda Zia) will mislead people and the Awami League. You cannot confuse Awami League by making such empty rhetoric,” he said.
Quader, also minister for road transport and bridges, came up the with such remarks while inaugurating a two-day extended meeting and training programme of Bangladesh Chhatra League at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) auditorium in the capital.
The Awami League general secretary said the BNP has been issuing threats of anti-government movement one after another. Once the party leaders said the BNP would wage movement after “Eid-ul-Fitr”, followed by their pronouncement of movement after “Eid-ul-Azha” and after SSC examinations, he added.
He sarcastically said “This time we want to know after which Eid the movement will be waged,” he said.
Criticising remarks of foreign diplomats about the national election, Quader said “I want to say those diplomats who are talking about the election of our country; you should look into the image of your country first. You should not talk about the election of our country”.
He said the next election will be held in a free and fair manner.
The minister said the next general election will be held under the Election Commission and Sheikh Hasina's government will help the commission conduct the polls properly.
BCL President Saifur Rahman Sohag chaired the function while its former general secretary Ishhak Ali Khan Panna, former president Mahmudul Hasan Ripon, and incumbent general secretary SM Jakir Hossain addressed the function, among others.
