3.5 lakh yaba pills seized in Ctg
Police in a drive seized 3.5 lakh pieces of Yaba tablets worth Tk 10 crore from Gahira in Anwara upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
Tipped off, a team of police raided on the house of Abul Kashem around 4:30 am and recovered the Yaba pills, kept in several sacks under the bed of the house, said Mohammad Rezaul Masud, acting superintendent of Chittagong Police. However, none was arrested as the house inmates managed to flee sensing the presence of the law enforcers.


7 food shops fined Tk 3.05 lakh
Members of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) fined seven food factories and shops Taka 3.05 lakh on charges of manufacturing and marketing sub-standard and unhygienic foods in Rajshahi city on Wednesday. A team of the DNCRP in association with Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) conducted a daylong raid at different areas of the metropolis and found the shops guilty of preparing, possessing and selling foods in unhygienic condition. The team fined the shops Taka 3.05 lakh and realized the money from the shop owners on the spot. RMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said the drive against the violations of consumers’ rights will continue.


Cosmetics shops fined
The regional office of Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) fined two cosmetics shops Taka 70,000 for manufacturing and marketing of substandard cosmetics goods. BSTI in association with Executive Magistrate Shafiqur Alam conducted a mobile court at Baneswar Bazar area under Puthiya Upazila Thursday afternoon. The court found Jhilmil Store and Modern Cosmetics and Herbal guilty of manufacturing, possessing and selling of substandard cosmetic items violating BSTI rules and regulations.


The court also realised Taka 70,000 from the shop owners.
Altab Hossain, Director of BSTI, said the regional office has expedited its drives against the manufacturer of substandard and adulterated foods and other consumer items. Man arrested for violating minor girl Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Wednesday night arrested a middle-aged man on charges of raping a minor girl from the city's Shahjahanpur area in Chittagong. A squad of PBI arrested Sabbir alias Sabbir Ahmed, 51, Jhilpar area of ShahjahanPur police station around 11pm on Wednesday, police sources said.
Sabbir, who returned to Dhaka from America after a long time, allegedly violated the minor girl aged about 12 in a residence at Gulbagh with the help of Kaberin Akhter Swapna on November 23 in 2014, police said. A case was lodged to this end.
