UGC okays Tk 4151.51-crore budget for 37 public universities
The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh yesterday approved the original budget of Taka 4151.51 crore for 37 public universities in the country and Taka 37.30 crore for UGC for 2017-2018 fiscal year, reports BSS. The approval was given at the UGC's 147th Full Commission meeting held in the capital yesterday with UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan in the Chair, said a press release. The meeting also approved the original budget and revised budget of Taka 3788.97 crore and Taka 3843.54 crore respectively for 2016-2017 fiscal year for the country's public universities. The UGC also approved the original budget and revised budget of Taka 35.05 crore and Taka 36.23 crore respectively for 2016-2017 fiscal year for UGC. The Commission has increased budgetary allocation for public universities and UGC by 9.54 percent compared to the previous year.UGC Secretary Dr. Md. Khaled placed the budget in the meeting. Among others, Education Secretary M Sohrab Hossain, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique and UGC Members Professor Dr Dil Afroza Begum and Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, among others, were present in the meeting.
‘Day of the Russian Language’ in Daffodil International University
Daffodil International University in Dhaka organized an educational event dedicated to the Day of the Russian Language and the 228th anniversary of the birth of Great Russian poet Alexander S Pushkin on June 6, says a press release. The event was attended by Russian University Alumni Zaheed Reza Noor, Professor of History Department, Jahangirnagar University, also a Russian University graduate Dr Taibul Hasan Khan and the head of Russian Centre of Science & Culture (RCSC) in Dhaka Alexander P Demin. Organisers and teachers Daffodil University Professor Dr Md Fokhray Hossain, Professor Binoy Kumar Barman and Administrative Officer International Affairs Syed Raihan-Ul-Islam noted the positive value of educational events dedicated to the Day of the Russian language.
NU masters exams begin July 16
Masters final course irregular and improvement (old syllabus) examinations of 2014 under National University will be held between July 16 and August 24. First semester examination of masters of 2015 will also begin on July 16 and continue till August 9, said a NU release. Detailed schedule of the final and first semesters examinations are available on the university website www.nu.edu.bd and www.nubd.info/mp respectively, it said.
RUET launches advance level ICT course
RAJSHAHI: The Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) has launched advance level course on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in order to make its teachers, officers and employees skilled on the subject. RUET Vice- chancellor Prof Rafiqul Alam Beg said this while addressing the inaugural session of a month-long computer networking training course on Tuesday as the chief guest. RUET's Central Computer Center and Planning and Development Branch jointly organised the course with financial support from Education and Research Project of Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC). Some 15 officers and staffs of the university took part in the course being held at central computer centre. There is no alternative to adopting modern technology to take the existing socio-economic condition forward in this competitive world. Registrar Prof Dr Mosharraf Hossain and Director of Planning and Development Section Professor Abdul Alim spoke as special guests with In-charge of Central Computer Center Prof Bashir Ahmed in the chair. System Analyst Mostofa Kamal and Programmer Emdadul also spoke on the occasion. Prof Rafique Beg said the present government is working relentlessly for reaching IT services at the doorsteps of the people for building Digital Bangladesh. He added that the government has imparted training to 55,000 students on ICT transforming them into skilled manpower.
