BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday voiced displeasure over the atmosphere at the Special Judge Court-5 as she alleged the ACs over there remained switched off amid the sultry weather during the hearing on Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, reports UNB. “I’m not in a mood to deliver any speech here today as I had been there all the day in the court amid the sweltering heat. There’re many ACs in the court, but those were not in operation. Their remotes were not there
either,” she said.
In her brief address at an iftar party, Khaleda also said many dramas were staged in the court during her hearing on her cases. “Though we got fed-up with the heat, they didn’t feel to operate the ACs. They finally switched the ACs on amid huge screams (by lawyers).”
The BNP chief urged her party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to deliver speech at the programme on behalf of her.
National Democratic Party (NDP), one of the components of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, arranged the iftar at Emanuel’s Convention Center at Gulshan.
Earlier in the day, Khaleda appeared before the Special Judge Court-5 around 11:00 am in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Fakhrul said BNP leaders and activists are not in peace even in the month of Ramadan. “We expected that the government would refrain a bit from repressing us during this holy month. But, our party’s senior leader Moudud Ahmed
was driven out from his house by force yesterday (Wednesday). They continued harassing our leaders and activists in false cases across the country.”
He said though their chairperson appeared before the court today, it set June 15, only a week later, 15 for the hearing in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. “This is an example of how they’re oppressing us.”
The BNP leader said the government is planning to hold another lopsided election keeping Khaleda out of the election race.
He warned that the country’s people will not allow Awami League to hold any unilateral election again. “We all must put up a strong resistance against such polls.”
Top leaders of the 20-party alliance and BNP attended the programme.
