The place in which Bangladesh beat Australia 12 years ago to stun the cricket world and begin their cricket renaissance is now completely changed, according to Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, the only survivor of that famous game from the either side.
“After coming to the stadium, I can’t locate the place from where Aftab clubbed Jason Gilespie a massive six. It is changed totally. Even I can’t find any similarity,” Mashrafe said.
Cardiff Stadium which is known as Sophia Gardens when Bangladesh played against Australia is now named as SSE Swalec. A massive renovation was done after that game.
“The outfield also looked completely changed. And now the gallery what you are seeing from here, is an empty place,” he said indicating a gallery. “I think the press box is also not there. You people probably sat in the overflow zone.”
It is the first time Bangladesh will be playing in Cardiff after that game.
Mashrafe insisted his team is in good shape despite three straight defeats including the two warm-up games and an abandoned game in which they were in a position of a crushing defeat after their victory against New Zealand in the Tri-nation series in Ireland. He said his team has been playing good cricket against the tough opponents in a condition alien to them and if some little things would have come in their favour they could win all of those matches.
However back in the country and the social media outlet, the performance of Bangladesh is considered as below par to what Mashrafe protested vehemently.
