Unlike Bangladesh, there is any festivity, posters or frantic activities revolving around the general election here in England. Hardly anyone from Bangladesh could find a heat of the UK polls also and if the match between Bangladesh and New Zealand what is embalmed as ‘do or die’ game is taken into the consideration, it is more like the England general election. There is no passion amongst the residents in Cardiff where rugby is the most popular game according to the taxi drive Ian Fraser.

Whatever the heat or passion regarding the match in ice cool condition in Cardiff is there or not, for Bangladesh and New Zealand it is the must-win fixture in the ICC Champions Trophy. A defeat would rule out the possibility of the semi-final for both of the teams. And while it is important game, Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza wants everyone to delivery instead of depending on opener Tamim Iqbal just. Onus is now on to the senior players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad and Shakib Al Hasan also to fire in the most important game as Mashrafe believes his team could seal the last-four stage if they win the game. Bangladesh’s semi-final aspiration though will be relied on the England’s victory against Australia on June 10, according to Mashrafe, given the home condition, the hosts will be favourite to win the game.
“Tamim Iqbal has been in the form of his life but that doesn’t mean we would rely only on him to deliver us the victory,” Mashrafe said. “He played two great knocks in the consecutive matches and if he couldn’t deliver in the tomorrow’s game, you can’t blame him. So onus is on the other senior players to come all guns blazing.”
“Normally when Mushfiqur, Riyad or Shakib played well around Tamim, you observed we won the game. They need to come up with stellar performance in tomorrow’s game.”
The mindset like going into this game however is good for Bangladesh because of their recent record against the Kiwis. Only Zimbabwe is the team against whom they won more matches than New Zealand. Mashrafe and company have won a lot of important one-day games over the last few years to get up to No. 6.
Now it’s the chance for them to show their credential as a No. 6 team. Moreover a victory against New Zealand could propel Bangladesh to the 2019 World Cup directly. So a lot of things are involved in it.
“The way we are playing the last two, three years, there's a lot of matches we win and also a few matches we should win; we couldn't. But it's still our focus to win every match and we play at our best. So obviously tomorrow's match we will try our level best. We knew if we can create chances, obviously we have to grab it, and we play hard.”
“All of the players are fit and they are confident of beating New Zealand. Senior players are upbeat and I don’t think I need to tell them anything to inspire. Everybody knows what is awaiting for them if they win the game against New Zealand.
Only thing that Mashrafe and his team will pray that may the rain stay away from the game as there is forecast of a rain at some point in the match.
“We don’t have the control over the weather. But we are prepared enough to take the challenge. Hope the rain will stay away to permit the full game.”
There is some grass on the pitch still but Mashrafe said it will be cut in the morning of the match after which they will decide about their combination.
Bangladesh's practice at the ground has been called off due to consistent rain. They are practicing at indoor.
