KHULNA: The workers of seven jute mills of the district called for a five-day demonstration on Wednesday to press home their four-point demands including payment of dues, allowance and withdrawal of false cases against their leaders, reports UNB.
Sohrab Hossain, central member secretary of Bangladesh Jute Mill CBA-non-CBA coordination council, said that they have called the five-day movement from Wednesday as the government haven’t pay heed to their four-point demands.
The movement includes-staging demonstration in front of seven jute mills on Wednesday, staging sit-in in front of the main offices of the mills on June 11, bring out protest procession in the industrial zone on June 14, organise a rally on June 19 in support of strike and to observe 24 hour-strike on June 20.
Earlier on Tuesday, the workers of Crescent Jute Mill staged demonstration in front of the mill demanding payment of their dues.
Sardar Motahar Uddin, president of CBA of Platinum Jubilee Jute Mill, said as per the announcement of BJMC chairman, workers were supposed to get half of their dues within June 6. We were forced to call the strike as the authorities concerned haven’t taken any initiative in this regard, he added.
