Bangladeshi director Rubaiyat Hossain’s feature film ‘Under Construction’, which earlier won the Jury Prize at the Festival du Film d’Asie du Sud (FFAST, 2016) in Paris, has been released in the theatres of eight prominent cities in France, including Paris, Belfort, Clermont-Ferrand on June 7. The film will eventually release in more theatres in France and other European cities, the distribution company informed.
DhakaLive has news that Shahana Goswami and Mita Rahman, the two lead characters in the film, attended the opening show at the le Saint-André-des-Arts in Paris.
The film ‘Under Construction’ is about a woman struggling to find herself in the sprawl of urban Bangladesh. The story of the film ‘Under Construction’ shows that in order to find herself, actress Roya reconstructs a famous and politically minded play for modern times, reclaiming her identity and sexuality in the process.
However, after releasing in January last year, ‘Under Construction’ has been participating in the different types of festivals at home and abroad and won a number of prestigious awards, including ‘Golden Durian Prize’ for best Asian Films, ‘Emile Guimet Jury Award’ and Special Jury Award at Sala Mindanaw International Film Festival in Philippines, ‘International Jury Award’ in International des Cinemas d’Asie de Vesoul in France and others.
