Death of 3 workers

Punishment demanded

UNB

Bangladesh Sramik Nirapotta Forum on Thursday urged the authorities concerned to give exemplary punishment to those responsible for the death of three workers in an under-construction building in the capital, reports UNB.
The Forum that works on workers safety in a statement also demanded compensation for the families of the victims and the safety of workers across the country.
Proper investigation into the accident was also demanded by the Forum through Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments in light with the Bangladesh Labour Act.
Three construction workers were killed as they fell off an under-construction building of Rupayan Housing Estate at the capital’s Bailey Road on Tuesday.
“We know according to the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006, no owner can assign workers without ensuring their personal safety and providing the required safety gear,” the Forum said in a statement.
They said the employer will have to raise awareness among the workers by giving them training on their work risks and safety measures. “But the Bailey road incident shows that the provision of the Labour Act was ignored completely.”
The Forum demanded proper steps to implement the Bangladesh Labour Act ensuring workers rights.
They claimed the owners of the under-construction building ignored the provision of the Labor Act 2006, and expressed their concern over the death of the three workers in such accident.
Mentionable that three workers died falling off a 14-storey under-construction building in the city's Bailey Road area on Tuesday.
The victims were identified as Md Jahangir Hossain, 25, Md Sayem, 17, and Md Jainul.
The three workers met the accident around 3 pm while working on the 9th floor of the multi-storied building, said Jamil, a co-worker of the deceased.
They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead at around 3:30 pm, he said.
The bodies were kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy.
