Nearly 96,000 enterprises in Vietnam have owed a total of over 49,000 billion Vietnamese dong (nearly 2.2 billion US dollars) in taxes, the country's tax agency said yesterday, reports Xinhua.
Of the enterprises, 86 per cent have owed taxes for over three months, the General Department of Taxation under the Finance Ministry said, noting that the smallest debt is 10 million Vietnamese dong (442 US dollars).
Businesses in capital Hanoi have owed more than 15,000 billion Vietnamese dong (664 million US dollars) in taxes, in Ho Chi Minh City more than 9,000 billion Vietnamese dong (398 million U.S. dollars), and in southern Binh Duong province over 2,000 billion Vietnamese dong (88.5 million US dollars).
In the first five months of this year, 50,534 enterprises with total registered capital of 485,600 billion Vietnamese dong (nearly 21.5 billion US dollars) were established in Vietnam, up 12.9 per cent in business number and up 39 per cent in registered capital against the same period last year.
