Terrorist attacks in Iran

Terrorist attacks in Iran

Barely a week had passed after the much debated US president’s visit to the Middle East, the diplomatic and security situation inside the Gulf region seems to have dramatically shifted for the worst. Just after the region had plunged into a serious diplomatic crisis, a group of terrorists carried out twin attacks in Iran’s parliament building and the Ayatollah Khomeini's shrine. Some 12 people have been reported to have been killed during the onslaught. The Islamic State (IS) group has claimed to have carried out the attacks.
The claim, if we take it to be true, calls for immediate joint response by all Muslim states against this unanticipated act of terror. It was a despicable act of desperate cruelty which we strongly condemn.
However, Iran is an Islamic Republic and a major stakeholder in the Islamic world and the oil industry. Therefore, any act of terror carried against the Iranian people also goes against Muslims. It is because of this reason why a terrorist non-state actor such as the IS should be highly condemned by the Muslim world.
Iran has been, however, at the top of so-called Islamic State's target list for a number of years now, but the timing of this attack is significant. Iran, Qatar, and all Middle-Eastern countries should at once come to realise that a severe geopolitical crisis is looming large over the Gulf and the Middle-East. This terrorist organisation has once again become operational to tear apart the cultural and religious unity of the Muslim states in the Middle-East.
Despite appearing to be a more vulnerable target than European countries due to its proximity to territories controlled by the Jihadist group, Iran, until last Wednesday, had been able to prevent cross-border terror attacks. Now with Iran coming under attacks, other Gulf countries too have become potential Islamic State targets. And it is right now more than ever, when all Muslim countries should unite and fight this terrorist group to the bitter end.
Today, IS militants are facing a losing battle in Iraq and are retreating in Syria but even more dangerous is that, a syndicate of major global powers have unfolded a evil strategy to hit and destroy Islam in the name of fighting extremism, militancy and global terrorism.
We stand united with Tehran, Kabul, London, Paris, and all terror-afflicted cities of the world. We want peace in the world. At the same time we make a repeated plea to all Muslim countries to remain united despite the differences and extra-ordinarily vigilant to deter any global conspiracy against Islam.
