A court yesterday sentenced two brothers to death for killing a schoolboy at Adarshapara in Sadar upazila in 2013.
The District and Session's Judge, Golam Kibria, awarded the death penalty to Nafiz Hasan Nahid, 19, and his elder brother Nazmul Hasan Nayeem, 21, sons of Shafiqul Alam Hawladar of Adarsapara, for killing the schoolboy.
The court also sentenced them to seven years' imprisonment and fined them Tk 50,000 each.
According to the prosecution, the convicts called Sadman Sakib Prince, 14, a Class-X student of Pirojpur Government Technical School and College and son of Jakir Hossain Sarder, to their rented house on August 29 in 2013. Following an altercation over playing cricket, Nahid hit him in the face and eyes. Sensing danger, the two brothers tied the victim's mouth with cloths to ensure his death and later dumped the body into a nearby pond.
Police recovered the body from the pond on August 30.
Victim's father filed a case with Pirojpur Police Station.
After investigation, Moniruzzaman Munir, sub-inspector of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station submitted a chargesheet before the court accusing Nahid, Nayeem and their father Shafiqul Alam.
