Universities observe World Environment Day
Different private and government universities observed World Environment Day on Monday and Tuesday, say press releases.
The World Environment Day-2017 was observed through various programmes on Monday on Dhaka University (DU) campus in a befitting manner. Marking the day, DU Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies (IDMVS) organised a debate competition on environment titled “Youth Climate Parliament’ in association with SIP, Pariprekkhit and Save the Children, said a DU press release.
Department of Environmental Science and Management (ESM) of North South University celebrated the World Environment Day on Tuesday. The theme of the event was this year's, ‘Connecting to Nature’. The programme was inaugurated by the ESM Chair, Prof Md Jakariya, PhD, followed by experts' experience sharing from different generations, including Dr Mizan R. Khan, Professor, NSU ESM and Climate Change Negotiator; Junaid Kabir Chowdhury, Lead Forest Expert of Bangladesh; Engr.
Md Waji Ullah, Executive Director, CEGIS; M A Mohit, the first Bangladeshi Everest Conqueror; Ms. Remeen Firoz, consultant, BCCSAP Action Plan Review, GIZ and ESM alumnus. Each of the speakers portrayed a specific message related to their field within their stories.

The platform was open for students, staff, teachers, parents to share their childhood stories of the environment too. Prof Dr. Atiqul Islam, NSU's Vice-chancellor, was present as the session chair and Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Secretary, Public Safety Division, Ministry of Home Affairs, as the chief guest of the closing session; Special guests were Md. Raisul Alam Mondal, Director General, Department of Environment, MoEF, GoB and Prof. Dr G U Ahsan, NSU's Pro-Vice Chancellor.
