‘Zero tolerance against terrorism, militancy’

KHULNA: Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commissioner Humayun Kabir here yesterday said KMP shows zero tolerance against drug trading, terrorism and militancy for building a peaceful and just society, reports BSS.
He was addressing in a view exchange meeting with print, electronic, online journalists and local editor at KMP headquarter.
Journalists urged the newly appointed KMP commissioner to take initiatives against some problems of city dwellers such as battery run easy bikes and rickshaws, illegal drug traders, illegal arms possessors, listed terrorists.
Journalists also pointed out issues like snatchers, aggayan party, and fake journalists who drive motor cycles with press sticker.
The commissioner asked the cops for strengthening drives against terrorists, illegal drug traders and enhancing area basis patrol duty of police for stopping burglary, robbery, and mugging in the city. KMP has already taken adequate security measures across the city during Ramadan and Eid-ul Fitr to ensure peaceful celebrations of the holy month and the great festival of Muslim Ummah, he said.
As part of other security measures, KMP has set up close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, spy sunglass and other electronic devices.
Over 2,500 dressed and plain clothes policemen has been deployed in and around of markets in the city during Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr. Police also begin patrol at all roads and highways to check extortion, snatching, pick-pocketing, harassment of the buyers, he said.
He, however, said security at the bus terminals, launch terminals and railway terminals has been enhanced. Additional Police Commissioner Mahbub Hakim, deputy police commissioner Fazlul Haque, Zahangir Hossain, Aref Mahmud, among others, was present.
